It was ridiculously overpriced, even by their standards. Anyway, I'll let you know if it ever shows up. Also, I picked up Henry Kaiser's Hope You Like Our New Direction which features Buckethead on one track & makes pretty clear (in case there was any doubt) that Buckethead is (or maybe was) Brian Carroll. I wasn't very impressed by the duo, but I'll buy just about anything with Buckethead on it, though I've resisted the Company CDs, at least so far. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ From jeff@shop.internet.net Fri Jun 23 10:43:44 1995 Subject: Re: Buckethead >Thanks for the info Jeff. My contact says that he (Buckethead) is a bit eccentric and kinda weird. Just The album that generates this type of comment is _Bucketheadland_, which is supposed to be a soundtrack for a non-existent movie. Within that context it works, but I would agree that that album doesn't bear up to repeated listenings. Nothing else would fit this, although he gets a little silly on _Giant Robot_. Check out _Octave of the Holy Innocents_ to hear a side of Buckethead that most people know nothing about. He plays only acoustic guitar and it's an awesome piece of work. >curious.... I also heard from a distributor some time ago, that Sony was going >to sign him to a 6 figure record deal. Wondering if he went against the grain >and so on..... He has a contract with Sony, _Giant Robot_ is on Sony in Japan and I have heard that the album he is now recording will be on Sony. I am not very familiar with Mike (except for Mister Bungle) and I > think I will listen to it again to see why so many people want Patton > as the singer on this record (I am sure there is a reason). have you ever listened closely to his screaming? you would know if it was hime if you ever heard FNM or bungle in concert, or listend to the latest FNM album. or closely examine the small amount of screaming noise parts on the mr bungle album........i want it to be him because he is a very wonderful singer....even if he never sang, he can make just as many, if not more different, and more varied sounds with is throat than Eye can... well, maybe.... and was that thing about the melvins saying that the Mike Patton possibility is only a rumor? they do thank him on Grand Guignol, and he does sing on Elegy. **** The insert to my Leng Tch'e disc (Toy's Factory) says the following: recording - ALEC HEAD, mix - OZ FRITZ, mastering - BOB LUDWIG, cover - TOMOYO T.L., composed & produced by - JOHN ZORN, published by - THEATRE OF MUSICAL OPTICS (BMI), (*...and here's the important part ...*) thanks - PATTON & THE MELVINS. I would assume that if Zorn thanked them than they must have contributed to the album in some way ... i.e. Patton on vox & the Melvins helping with the music. I've also read a few reviews of the disc that have talked about how Patton & the Melvins joined Naked City for a "30 minute jam session" etc etc . . . It was quite a while ago so I'm sorry but I don't remember where I read it. -Patrick ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- From kidfunky@grfn.ORG Sat Jun 24 11:19:11 1995 Subject: Re: ZORN DIGEST #67 > > > > To the person who wanted to know who did the vocals on Leng Tche, it is > > Michael Patton of Faith No More. > > Yamatsuka Eye, at least that's what is written on the wrapper and what > confirmed a musician from the band. My copy of the album specifically states: THanks to Mike Patton, and the Melvins. (Or something to that affect). It sounds to me like the Melvins play throughout the album, the guitar for the most part is very Melvins-ish and not very Naked City-ish. Also the vocals, as far as I can tell, are Mike Patton. Sure it is the same screaming style vocals that Yamakutsa Eyes is known for, but it does not sound like Yamakutsa, and Mike Patton also is known for doing the same kind of vocal style on occasion. Besides wasn't Mike Patton touring with Naked City at the time? I know he did several shows with them. You were aware that Zorn produced Bungle, and also several members of Bungle including Patton are on Zorn's Elegy? > > > > > Did the Deli Creeps ever actally release anything? If you like Deli Creeps, definetly see if you can get your hands on this disc. I also am only aware of demo recordings from them. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- From jk@ritz.mordor.com Sun Jun 25 11:11:57 1995 Subject: Re: ZORN DIGEST #68 >> From jeff@shop.internet.net Tue Jun 20 17:24:04 1995 >> >> I saw Patton as the vocalist with Naked City in NYC about five years ago. >> Maybe his live appearances make people suspect that he is on the recorded >> stuff. > >do you happen to know what the date was or what could be distinguishable >about the show to maybe find out if it is was recorded and accessible in >some way? > >---- >ozric@hndymn.stat.com ((corey fogel)) >'the computer handyman' - 602/548-9706 >------------------------------------------------------------------------------ i didn't write the original mention of the show but if it's the same one i was at it was at the now-defunct marquee in new york on thursday april 9, 1992. jon (who knew that if he saved all of his ticket stubs for 18 years it would come in handy at least once) ----------------------------------------------------------------------------
