In "Zoolander" (a very funny lightweight "Austin Powers" sort of comedy starring Ben Stiller), Frankie Goes to Hollywood fans definitely will enjoy the fact that the song "Relax" is a MAJOR part of the plot, and is VERY prominently featured (in versions by FGTH and others). Also, I won't ruin the surprise, but a bit of fictional Frankie history that is mentioned in the movie is hilarious! According to the credits, "Relax" is performed by FGTH (various mixes), someone named Brian Kehew, and a group listed as Powerman 5000 featuring Dannyboy. Lots of other '80s songs also are in the movie, but you will be stunned and delighted at how much attention is devoted to "Relax!" (second post follows) Here is more info on the VERY prominent appearance of FGTH's "Relax" in the upcoming movie "Zoolander." This is quoted from the movie's director/star/cowriter Ben Stiller, who made the remarks at a press-only media event held today (Friday September 21) in Los Angeles to promote the movie. The reporter who asked the question is my own Significant Other, who is a fellow Frankie fan. (SPOILER WARNING: Part of the plot and something about the ending is revealed in Stiller's answer, but nothing that will ruin the movie for you.) REPORTER: Could you talk about the song "Relax" in the movie, because that was just the highlight for me. BEN STILLER: Oh, good! Yeah, well, we thought that would be a great song to have in the movie just because it just kind of related on a lot of different levels to the character. It kind of...the soundtrack of the movie kind of grew out of that. It became like a very kind of retro-'80s soundtrack for some reason. But, um, you know, it was Drake Sather's idea. His first draft of the script was, that was the song they would use to brainwash Derek--because he would, as a male model, he would like it. (Laughter). Um, I don't know what that means, it just, you know, um...and then it just ended up being...It ended up being a really challenging thing to use in the movie because you have to use the song a lot in the movie. So we actually had to go to people from Frankie Goes to Hollywood and get the original elements of the song. So we got the original like 24 track, and were breaking that. So we got like the little stings and the "bawm bawm bawm" and all the little pieces of it and tried to build it in. So finally at the end of the movie when Derek's on the runway and there's that big kind of climax, we actually then got the full orchestra that was scoring the movie to play "Relax." Which was really funny, to see like a full 80-piece orchestra playing "Relax" on a soundstage. But yeah, it became like this very very important part of the movie. (end of quote) Also: Frankie's version of "Relax" (3:42 mix) appears on the "Zoolander" soundtrack CD, along with a 3:04 version by Powerman 5000. Finally: What exactly is Holly Johnson saying starting at the 3:42 mark on the single? I've never been about to decipher that line... - --James (Pleasure Domo) Dawson stjamesdawson@hotmail.com _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com/intl.asp # Need help using (or leaving) this mailing list? # Send the command "info ztt" to majordomo@lists.xmission.com. # To post, email ztt@lists.xmission.com; replies go to original sender. # ZTT discography available at http://www.swcp.com/lazlo-bin/discogs?ztt ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 10 Oct 2001 23:56:09 -0400 From: "Alex Veronac" Subject: (ztt) Fwd: FGTH included in new Soundtrack 'Zangers, ...is Powerman5000 covering Frankie now? _DJB ++++ compact disc release of the soundtrack for the 2001 film Zoolander (Hollywood 162324).
