About that P stuff, I just remembered about a Basic COMPILER for the ZX spectrum that got out in ... 1984/5 [coincidence, is it ??!!] called "Blast" that generated P-code. Please tell us how it sounds... it's EXCELLENT. i was very pleasantly surprised, as i didn't think it would be that good, mainly because 'concept albums' generally suck. this is narrated throughout by well-known actor John Hurt (although Paul Morley's voice does crop up in the first and last tracks). the album is more like one piece, split up into various movements - with a common vocal refrain appearing at regular intervals throughout the album. the album is a mixture of classical, techno, drum and bass, and even rap (on a couple of tracks). that doesn't sound good, but it really works. there's even a little snippet of Moments In Love thrown in towards the end. it's so OBVIOUSLY a TCH production, as it's very lush and clean-sounding. all in all....VERY good. l8r. -- Smiley spares list at http://come.to/SmileyWeb # Need help using (or leaving) this mailing list? # Send the command "info ztt" to majordomo@lists.xmission.com. # To post, email ztt@lists.xmission.com; replies go to original sender. # ZTT discography available at http://www.swcp.com/lazlo-bin/discogs?ztt ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- From: Joerg Fitzner Subject: (ztt) Just an opinion Date: 18 Feb 1999 20:04:09 +0100 (MET) Hello People! Yesterday was such a special surprise to me, that I've got to write to you. Yesterday, I received a tape copy of the new Art Of Noise album (the one that Smiley wrote about earlier) - whatever its name will be. And the surprise was that it's in fact incredibly great! Absolutely UNBELIEVABLE!!! I haven't made a secret of the fact that I had very low expectations of a new AON album, before. Even though I knew the AON _was_ great, the 'Dream On' 12" didn't change my suspicious preconceptions (since I knew that WOW _is_ great). Anyway, now that I have heard the new one, I'm deeply impressed. The AON did it again! And I'm really happy about that. Moreover I'm happy about the pleasure it is to listen to such great music! I won't try start to describe how it sounds or which colour it's got. But I'm sure anybody who liked the old AON will love the new one as well! Somehow it's got their trademark, although it's totally different. It's magic! I began losing my faith in TCH's productions, but this truly proves me wrong! He still can, if he wants, make the album of the year. "Ladies and Gentlemen: The Art Of Noise!" Let's have a party! Anybody know for sure? I'm in the US... Between this and Smiley's testimonial, the anticipation is killing me. And I actually *liked* the "Wet Dream" mix that someone was kind enough to MP3 (thanks!). I want the new album! What's the latest on its release? Help! I have gotten several emails asking me about this. I have spoken to Holly Johnson's management who assure me that these shows are NOT sanctioned by them. Holly Johnson owns the rights to the name Frankie Goes To Hollywood and has not given permission for the name to be used by another band. Caveat emptor. Hopes this clears some things up. The Trevor/Lol session is intended to be a little more technology-oriented for DJ mag's spin-off tech mag, EQ. Please feel free to email me your questions...!! These can range from the past to the future of AoN and it's members etc. etc.. I will pose the best ones to the band on your behalf. And if this works well, I'll include the 'Internet Q&A' in the finished DJ mag article.... Date: 27 Feb 1999 13:51:31 +0100 Hi Ian, Lucky you! I have the following Art of Noise related questions. Feel free to choose from my personal brainstorming: - Why all the www.ztt.com secrecy on the Art of Noise? - Why isn't the new 12" public available? - Is it ZTT's official comment that the MP3 file on http://home.earthlink.net/~themgnt/dream.htm should be removed? - Any release dates? Any release dates that we can believe in? - Have the other Art of Noise persons (Gary Langan and J.J.Jeczalik) been invited to this new project? - Now that old groups are reappearing! What about the Buggles? There have been talks on releases of old demo sessions between Trevor Horn and Geoffrey Downes! - Any biography on its way? - The idea of re-union, was it to redo old themes or to make only new tunes? - Has it been difficult both to forget Into Battle With The AoN and make new tunes; at the same time as new tunes were made, and to keep calling the group Art of Noise? - Has Lol adn Anne worked together on other recordings that: Toys Soundtrack, Rod Stewart "Spanner in the Works", Tina Turner "Wildest dreams", Cher "It's a man's world"? - If hope the album is full of information on the tracks, musician and magicians! Or is it Paul Morley-style resulting in full booklets with slogans and mystery? - Does ZTT consider any friendly attitude towards this ztt-MailingList? I mean any pre-release information? Possibilities to buy or get (promo) items? Or at least some indication from them, that they consider us as customers? Please List! Come forward with other questions??
