Certain mailers apparently make it difficult to send personal replies when the reply-to address is set back to the list (as it is on all my lists). I want to know what people would think if I changed things so that normal replies would go to the original poster and group replies would go to the original poster and the list. Along with this I'd probably start adding the list names to the subject lines of messages that go out over the lists, to make it easier to see where your incoming email is coming from. Please send your responses DIRECTLY TO ME (not the list). If you don't care, no problem -- but it would change the list behavior some and it's only fair to give you some warning of that. -- ::: Lazlo (lazlo@swcp.com; http://www.swcp.com/lazlo) # Need help using (or leaving) this mailing list? # Email majordomo@xmission.com with "info ztt" in the message. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- From: Soeren Larsen Subject: AoN laserdisk Date: 07 Oct 1996 09:57:35 +0200 (MET DST) Hi AoN-dudes Yesterday I came across the `Visible Silence` PAL laserdisk. If you're talking about the Art Of Mix "acid remix", it's a stock version of "Relax" with an acid bassline, some additional percussion and a couple of samples laid over it. I know I have had several dreams where I find lots of rare releases some of which my mind has made up. I usually don't remember them but I remember the one from last night so I thought I'd share it: I was shopping at some used record store and I came accross a bunch of ZTT and ZTT related records. All of them were used but in pretty good condition and kind of expensive. I only remembered one of the titles but there were several. The one I remembered was the very rare (to say the least!) ACT's last single. It was a 12" single called "I Love Roberta". The cover was a light blue and had Claudia in a wheat field on an island. The back of the sleeve offered a little more information. There were two tracks although I don't know the titles (other than the bizarre 'I Love Roberta'). It did mention that ACT was now made up of Claudia Brucken and Roberta Allen. I guess it explains the title. Actually, the 12" wasn't a ZTT release, I think it was on Island actually so it must have come out before her solo material. :) And to imagine I could have had it for the low price (considering how rare it is) of $36! WOW! So that's my dream. I'd love to hear anyone elses if they've had any. That way I won't feel too insane. :) P.S. I vaguely remember another 12" that was white with black lettering. Plastered accross the cover was "DR. MABUSE FAN CLUB 12". I was pretty excited about that one too. # Need help using (or leaving) this mailing list? # Email majordomo@xmission.com with "info ztt" in the message. # Postings must go to ztt@xmission.com -- replies go to original sender. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- From: mark wasiel Subject: (ztt) anne dudley & sting Date: 08 Oct 1996 23:20:17 -0700 I noticed that Anne Dudely co-wrote a song with Sting on his most recent US 2 track CD single. Oh dear a funny one. Luv that. Well. I`ve had many record-collection-related dreams. But once I dreamt that I visited the SARM studios. I remember the dream very clearly. It was a huge farm in the mid-north of Jutland (Denmark) near the town where I live. I think I was visiting the place with a lot of other people (like a tour bus). Once I intered a huge room where Mr. TCH and some other people were mixing some music. I didn`t see any window to a recording room which I found strange. Later I was out in a garden and I couldn`t find my way out. The reason for this dream is because I`ve never seen any pictures of the SARM studios and it`s something I would like to see. A few years back I dreamt of finding the DMC records which were one of the first places I heard 808 State music. But it was a sad one because I couldn't reach them ;-( But for the happy ending I have them now. That dream of Mark was really great! I think I'll always watch out for "I Love Roberta" whenever I am looking for Act stuff on a fair or similar, from now on! Only it's a pity it wasn't on ZTT :) I've also dreamed a few times about such things, but I don't remember very much - it's some time ago. Once I've had a dream that I've been in London and found a VHS video comilation of FGTH. It had a sleeve similar to that of the japanese 'Bang!' remix album, and I didn't know it had been released at all. This dream must have been around 1991, so it was the times when they showed virtually _none_ FGTH video on TV for years... And I was really angry on ZTT/Island when I woke up! Also I once dreamed that I 'met' Holly Johnson on a battle-field. We were both soldiers and were in a kind of a hurry (to save our lives). So there was no time to ask him my thousands of questions! Very strange dream - and scary. Then I dreamed of finding some very rare ZTT records (which really do exist) in a huge record shop for very few money; i.e. Hoodlum Priest 'Caucasian' 12" promo. Since Jamie brought up Seal I thought I'd mention that Seal is on a new compilation with a new track. The compilation is called "For Our Children Too". It is the second in a series of recordings by popular artists for the Pediatric Aids foundation. Seal is on it doing...brace yourselves... "Puff The Magic Dragon". I haven't heard it yet nor seen any details on the production but it does sound interesting. For some reason I imagine that it's only Seal and an acoustic guitar but maybe that's just me. Has anyone heard this yet? As for a new album coming out this year, I haven't heard anything but would welcome any news about it. Date: 21 Oct 1996 13:03:31 +100 Hello List! I agree, a record-release would be in distant future. Not only because Holly isn't working very fast, but also it will be difcult for him to find a record-company. For "Legendary children" it took him ages until he finaly made a deal with club tools. "What would FGTH be today?" Well, they would definatley be in one line with Groops such as: U2, Cure, Duran Duran , Depeche Mode etc. The 10th aniversery in 93/94 with RELAX in the charts showed that, even after all those years, FGTH is still famous. And I'm sure, if they'd reform and release a record today, they would be back in the top ten (regardless to the quality). However, in '93 all bandmembers got interviewed and they agreed, that reforming the band would be impossible due to disagreements (mostly Holly against the rest of the band). Everone seamed to be a bit sentimantel though about the fact, that they dropped such a big opportunity. Holly said, he and Wolfgang tried to reform the band for a charity festival for children in rumania without any success. Paul used a quote from `Blade Runner':"The star, which shines twice as bright, lifes half as long!" If so here's info on a new CD-single I just got last week: * Hoodlum Priest: Naked Time / No Fear CD5: 1995 UK (Stylus22/RTM: STYCD002) 6:13 Naked Time 4:33 No Fear 4:09 No Fear (Noko Apollo 440 Mix) 9:58 Naked Time (Uberchill - Technietzsche Mix) And in my opinion it's great - especially No Fear. Again it's way over the top... going beyond my abilities of description! All I can say regarding to styles (and I hate doing that), is that Noko's mix is a bit different from the rest incorporation pure break-beats. (But it's not less great, of course!) Therefore, I'm assuming that is who the producer is. The CD and tape is available from KID RHINO and the catalog number is 72494 (-2 for CD, -4 for cassette). 2) Seal is on the upcoming soundtrack to the Michael Jordan/Bugs Bunny film "Space Jam". This soundtrack comes out on the 29th of October (this coming Tuesday). If the track is new, which I suspect it will be, I also expect it to be produced by Trevor Horn as he seems to be into these big budget film soundtracks lately. It's possible that this track will be a single. I work at Virgin Megastore in Burbank and a customer already asked whether the song was available as a single so I assume that the track is already getting airplay. I'll keep my eyes open for the single and hope to have more info on the track Monday or Tuesday. 3) Frames DC is being released on Elektra this Tuesday as well. I've already posted about this. 4)Nothing big but the new Megastore in-store video tape (Vol 43, Nov 1996) has the video for Art of Noise "Paranoimia" on it. After actually seeing it though, I was pleasantly surprised to hear the Paranoimia '89 as the mix (this is the hippity-hop-ish one, isn't it?). The video has much footage from the live video tape (which name eludes me...but you know the one). Surprisingly, the video also has a lot of graphics from the Vectrex videogame system from 1982 (!) and the vector graphic animation of blowing up the Death Star from Star Wars. Weird. 5) Lots of copies of Art of Noise drum & Bass are available at our store. I'll try to get track info. I listened to some tracks and it was okay. Decent. My promo copy which is a "Limited Edition" and has a generic ELEKTRA back sleeve and no booklet is numbered "ELEKTRA 2-61970-P". The "P" stands for Promo copy. Here's the little blurb from the promo: "Heralded for their brilliant, frenetic live performances, Ireland's Frames DC have built a loyal UK audience in their brief career. Legendary producer Trevor Horn caught a show and was so taken that he signed them to his ZTT label and remixed Fitzcarraldo, their debut album, which the band had released themselves. Fitzcarraldo captures the band's live power in the studio with eleven passionate, moody and melodic tunes driven by guitars and piercing streaks of violin. 'Monument' is the first single and video from Fitzcarraldo." The track listing and times are the same as listed in Joerg's "Perfect Invention". I'll keep an eye out for the release of the US single. To be quite honest though, I really don't see this band getting much airplay or fans here in the US. The songs are okay but us Americans really aren't known to be big fans of "piercing streaks of violin". Also, I don't think the lyrics are catchy enough. I mean... "My revelate..."?
