From: Markus Arnold Subject: (ztt) Re: 808/dance yourself to death Date: 01 Oct 1998 16:44:31 +0100 Hi Niko Just found this question when browsing through old mail, I don't think I saw anyone answering it. This version is quite exclusive. It is a downtempo edit of the version that appeared in the Craig Stump extreme snow movie "License To Thrill". Soundtrack to this movie was only available as promo cassette. Good sports shops will have the movie. It is _not_ on the Hitsquad M/cr EP. Now what intrigues me is that you say the CD also includes Deepville. I have the 2xLP set, total 9 tracks incl. dance yourself to death and let yourself go, but no Deepville! If you come accross another copy of the CD, I would be very interested. I went to a music show this weekend and what should I find but two copies of Danny Jackson's 1985 book about the rise of Frankie Goes To Hollywood, "Frankie Say". It's a soft cover book and looks to be very interesting (I've never had a chance to see it before). Well, since I picked up two copies, I though I might start passing the book around to those list members who haven't had a chance to see it. Say I send it to someone to read for two weeks, and then they send it back and I mail it to another person, so on and so on. Since I trust that the list is comprised of members of uppermost integrity, I don't think I'll have any problems with people not returning the book. I've been seeking the 12" vsn for some time and this is the closest I've gotten, "Slave to the Rhythm (Hot Blooded Version)" It's basically a non-vocal mix for the first 2 min, then the vocal mix of the 12" (which I blv is the same as the LP mix) except during the break, which was edited out of the LP, whr she says, "I've opened myself now..." it's just instrumental. It concludes the same way as the 12" which was edited down on the LP. It's about 8:18. Certainly worth a listen. As to whether or not it's worth the $20 I paid for it here in the States @ Best Buy? Unlike Joerg, I haven't got a copy of the latest Adamski's thing CD. But, I do have information on its release in the US. Adamski's Thing: Adamski's Thing [3 Nov 1998] album CD: 1998 US (UNIVERSAL: UD 53213) CT: 1998 US (UNIVERSAL: UC 53213) Track listing looks the same. It does list the last track as "Memories of The Future (reprise)". Whether it will be hidden or not like on the UK version remains to be seen. Here are some highlights from the press release: You may remember Adamski (as Adam Tinley was then known). Perhaps best known for his collaboration Seal on a track called "Killer", Adamski then went on to release two grooving albums through MCA that made a major splash in the dance community. Adamski is now back on the scene with his new project, Adamski's Thing. With a great new single ("One Of The People") and a self-titled full-length album, Adam appears ready for a major crossover breakthrough. Inferno/Fat Boy Records artist Gerideau provides lead vocals on six of the album's tracks, including "One Of The People". Marketing Highlights: *Adamski is one of the most respected names in the dance community. *Extensive club promotion with DJs and record pools has been underway with various mixes of "One Of The People" since late August. *"One Of The People" has just shipped to Modern Rock specialty shows and will ship to Modern Rock for a late October add date. *Two versions of the cutting-edge video for "One Of The People" are available and will be serviced to MTV, VH-1, local video outlets and clubs. *A press campaign targeting dance, fashion and lifestyle publications is already underway. *An 18"X24" poster will be available prior to street date. ______ Well, forget the highlights...there's the whole thing. I found my copy at a used-CD store for $8.99, but I have no idea how many of these promos were manufactured. Anyone who ends up springing for the full retail 2-CD version because they can't find the promo shouldn't complain, though. This is really a great album! I can't imagine anyone buying it and being disappointed in the other songs. By the way, the "Hot Blooded" mix on the "Compass Point" album is VERY, VERY similar to the "Blooded" mix that appeared on "Zance" and on Grace's 10th-anniversary "Slave" CD single. Uni apparently didn't shoot the new booklets or back cards from the original film, because the reproduction is terrible. (808 State's "Gorgeous" has to be the worst -- really blurry.) Promo copies of four Frankie CDs, "Gorgeous," and Propaganda's "Disturbdances" all were at a used-CD store near me (Heavy Rotation on Ventura Blvd. in Studio City, CA, if anyone is interested). Because the CDs weren't shrink-wrapped, I was able to check out the interiors of the booklets. Many photos had "moire" patterns (the screened look of a bad reproduction). In general, every piece of art and type looked as if it had been reproduced via a very bad computer scanner. I have no idea if the sound quality of the CDs themselves is any better/worse than previous editions. (Can anyone help me out here?) If anyone would like to review them or has input let me know. My questions- 1) How is the sound quality. I'm no audiophile, but I could have swoarn that my old UK CD of Pleasuredome sounded crisper than the new issue? True? 2) the artwork seems scanned!! High quality, but still... did they loose the artwork? I wouldn't be surprised if they did considering they misplaced (but found) the master tapes. -Thanks -Dave Richards Managing Editor Lexicon Magazine # Need help using (or leaving) this mailing list? # Send the command "info ztt" to majordomo@lists.xmission.com. # To post, email ztt@lists.xmission.com; replies go to original sender. # ZTT discography available at http://www.swcp.com/lazlo-bin/discogs?ztt ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- From: Jeff Hamilton Subject: Re: (ztt) the AoN mailing list Date: 23 Oct 1998 22:31:34 +0100 At 03:22 PM 10/23/98 +0000, Andy R. wrote: >having just joined it, the CORRECT way of subscribing without bouncing >errors to the list owner is: >> send a message to listproc@lists.colorado.edu and type: >> subscribe aon-chat Your Name >> (in the message itself... the subject is ignored) >Mr Baur says "Well, feel free to assasinate him then (well, maybe not... >he put in a good word for me)." :-) heheh thank goodness for *nice* people next time i won't be so quick to offer myself up for assassination! and thanks, dave, for putting up the scans to the new AoN 12" - it looks awesome... can't wait to HEAR it! But it still rocks (thanks to Way Out West). How dare Morley have slagged Anne, JJ and Gary for going China/commercial on the sleevenotes to Daft, only to come back with this ten years later... There are some subtle similarities between this and to what the AoN PR's website (www.outside-org.co.uk) likes to refer to as AoN version 2.0 (the China years). The image of Debussey on the 12" label is exactly the same in style (and looks very similar to) the pics of Russollo on the early China releases. And talking of those - there's only one element that's musically similar to any previous AoN. And again, Trevor, Anne and Morley have surprisingly borrowed from the China years... Check out the heavily reverbed snare drum hits on Dream On. They could have been taken straight out of Legacy or the Live Legs... AoN revitalised? Dream On... (don't everybody run at once!) it sounds like the cardigans (all mixed up in bed) with the cranberries. [pretty and irritating.] and now the obligatory question: what's going on with the new Propaganda?! any word on who's producing the project? song titles? have they got a label yet? also, in the June '97 (nothing like timeliness) issue of ARENA magazine, for which Paul Morley sometimes writes, his contributor bio mentioned that he has a five year old daughter that lives half a mile away from Liam (Gallagher) and Patsy (Kensit). would this be his and Claudia's daughter?... are she and Morley still together? love: and a million tacky questions, zteven PS.. i noticed remixes of Holly Johnson's "Hallelujah!" are at number 8 on the "UK Club" charts on dotmusic right now...
