1. Be sure you are using a streaming mode NNTP. Most versions of INN above 1.5.1 support this. If you haven't already, download the latest version of INN from ftp.isc.org. 2. Download the newsgroups and the active file from this same directory and decide what newsgroups you require. NOTE!: A *full* 30,000 newsgroups feed includes all the regionals. It is very demanding on your server. Do NOT ask for a *full* feed if you are unsure of what it requires. Requesting "big 8" will give you the main hierarchies and not the alt groups. Any other hierarchy outside of "big 8" should be requested. The hierarchies "americast" and "clari" are subscription services. For information on subscribing, connect to: http://www.americast.com http://www.clari.net 3. Add the following line to your hosts.nntp file: newsfeeds.xmission.com: 4. Add the following entry to your newsfeeds file. Replace "yourname" with your local distribution.: # XMission - news@xmission.com newsfeeds.xmission.com/xmission\ :*,!junk,!control\ /!local,!yourname:Tf,Wnm: 5. Add the following to your nntpsend.ctl file: newsfeeds.xmission.com:newsfeeds.xmission.com:: 6. Do a "ctlinnd reload all update" on your INN news server. 7. Send confirmation of all the above and your list of newsgroups (one per line, with newsfeeds style wildcards), and your PATHHOST (or FQDN) to news@xmission.com. A sample of this for "big 8" would look like: # CyberInternetServiceProvider - news@cyberispnet.net news.cyberispnet.net !* comp.* humanities.* misc.* news.* rec.* sci.* soc.* talk.*
